I see a Strangely Happy Moon a-Rising…

The sky is smiling at me...
Last night Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon met in the sky to form a smiley face, and I just happened to have a camera ready. In the Northern Hemisphere, it looked a bit like this, but here in the South it formed a smiley, similar to this blog’s mascot, “Smiles von Smilerton” (I made that up on the spot).

Yay! The sky is happy!

  1. Nice shot! Your latitude Down Under helped make the smiley face, but so did your longitude east of Greenwich. As viewed from Europe, the Moon actually passed over (occulted) Venus before we in North America ever saw the configuration.

Thanks for linking to my photograph of the conjunction! 🙂

  2. i don’t know a lot about astronomy…. but i really liked this shot… it’s kinda funny

  3. liked this post– i saw it too but didn’t make the smiley faceconnection.. thanks for pointing that out 🙂

  4. Lucky you…it was rainy and overcast here, so I couldn’t see anything.

  5. My friend told me about this, but I could not see it in my country.. Thanks for posting it..
