A Visual History of McDonald’s

This week, I present to you: A Visual History of McDonald’s, our favourite fast food restaurant! Yay!

Okay. It started in 1940, when Dick and Mac McDonald founded the first McDonald’s restaurant. Their mascot was Speedee (see right). How cute.

Several years later, in 1953, the McDonald brothers began to franchise the business, which, in 1954, attracted Ray Kroc’s attention. He set up franchises, and eventually bought the entire company in 1961.

In 1963, Ronald McDonald appeared in a series of ads – scary…

Note: I take no responsibility for burning that image onto your retina.

While I’m on the subject of creepy ads, check out this Kinder Surprise ad from the 80s (if you want to sleep tonight, don’t watch this 😉 ):

Anyway, back to McDonald’s. A whole series of things happened between then and now, which I can’t be bothered covering.

Today, McDonald’s is accused of making people fat. Just like TV. And games. AND ANYTHING FUN!!!!!!! I ask you this: why isn’t Ronald himself fat? He lives on McDonald’s. It’s a fact*

That’s the visual history of McDonald’s! [Applause]
